EdenSpark Game Jam #1 Enters the Final Stretch — 2 Days Left to Submit
The first monthly EdenSpark Game Jam on the theme of "Transformation" is heading into the home stretch — you have just 2 days left to upload and publish your projects. The deadline is May 14, and we can already see the community pushing into its final sprint.
First published game — DogDispatch
Congratulations to the author of DogDispatch — the first game published as part of the jam! This interactive narrative game about adorable dogs, wrapped in a confident signature art style, is already up and playable. Check it out, support a fellow creator, and give it a try — a great way to get inspired before submitting your own entry.
A note on build size
The current upload limit on games.edenspark.io is 350 MB. If your game ends up larger than that — please let us know at least 24 hours before submitting. We'll either temporarily raise the limit for your project or help you trim the build without sacrificing quality.
How to reduce your build size
A few practical tips from the team and the community:
- Find your heaviest assets first. A handy tool for this is WinDirStat: it gives you a clear visual map of which files and folders take up the most space in your project.
- Optimize textures — they usually eat up the biggest chunk of the build. Step the resolution down: 4K → 2K, 2K → 1K, 1K → 512. Where you don't need an alpha channel, convert PNG to JPG — the size savings can be several times over.
- Compress your 3D models. The glb format with Draco compression works well and significantly reduces geometry size.
Important: Draco isn't always stable, so first run a single test model through the compression pipeline and confirm it renders correctly in-game before converting the rest of your art.
- Optimize your audio. Lower the bitrate, convert sound effects and background music to mono (where it makes sense), and reduce the sample rate. Suitable tools are easy to find by searching for "compress mp3 online" — there are both web services and desktop apps.
If your build is still over 350 MB after all the optimizations — reach out to us on Discord or Telegram. The community is actively discussing technical details there right now: if you've hit a problem, chances are someone else has already solved it, and the EdenSpark team is right there to help.
Final pre-submission checklist
- Game is published on EdenSpark
- A Standalone build is prepared for itch.io
- The entry is uploaded to the jam page on itch.io
Good luck on the final stretch — we can't wait to see your projects!
And don't be shy about sharing your work in the chats — post screenshots, GIFs, ideas, and progress updates. The community loves seeing what you're building, and a bit of live discussion often helps push a game across the finish line.
